I believe that the light is a simple low voltage indicator. If the battery
gets a shorted cell or a bad connection then the light will illuminate. If
the alternator diodes get blown or the alternator stops generating enough
charge to keep up with the loads
On my yanmar panel, I have 3 lights. 1, oil pressure, 2 engine
temperature, 3 voltage. Going left to right. I would imagine all yanmar panels

Could turning off the key accidentally when running dry the regulator?
