I did the same as Jim, except I have cam cleats as part of the turning
blocks at the ends of the traveler. I like Jim's arrangement better than
mine.

My boat’s only a 26, but when I replaced the traveler track (6 or 8 years ago?)
that’s on the bridge deck, just in front of the companionway, I put in a Harken.
Hole spacing and clearance for the cars in the slot were the main
considerations.
Harken makes a track with a longitudinal slot running
I’ll also recommend Garhauer, put one on our 33-2 and very happy with it. Very
easy to move even under load.

FWIW, the traveler on my previous boat (34) and on my current boat (42) are
both mounted in an aluminum traveler bridge near the companionway. I replaced
the traveler on the 34 with a Harken, which worked fine (the windward sheeting
car is overrated in my view). I also replaced the baby stay
We replaced the main traveler with a Garhauer. Sent the old track to Guido, he
matched the mounting holes and sent the new track back. Fit perfectly.

I have Lewmar line control Genoa cars and a Harken traveler. No comparison. The
Harken car is 100% easier to move even under load. I wish I’d thrown some extra
$$$ at the Genoa cars and gotten a Harken system.
You can do what you want but I’m not a big fan of Lewmar cars.

Hi Chuck,
On my LF38, When I removed the old track several bolts broke off. I sent
the old track to Garhauer to have the new track drilled with the mounting
holes in different locations. Guido did this at no additional charge. I

Call Garhauer. Theirs are cheaper, great quality and service is excellent. I
went for a MT-1 traveller. Speak to Guido. You will need exact details of the
location of the bolt holes so that they can duplicate the bolt pattern of your

Although a different boat, the tray height issue may be similar to mine.
LF38 by the way.
My traveller sits in section of 4” channel with very deep flange height, which
would have precluded the planned Harken traveller working.
