Bill;
Rule 20 (both inshore and international) forbids displaying a light that could
be confused with a light that is specified by the rules. So a strobe light that
is white, blue, or yellow that flashes at 120 pulses per minute or more, or a
yellow one flashing slowly, would not be legal.
HI Christian
Had exactly same issue on our 34. Tried several sealers but the only one that
worked is butyl. Biggest issue is the large upward movement of the chain plate
in relation to the deck when rig is tightened and can only imagine what happens
when beating to windward and tacking.

In my opinion, movement is EXACTLY the reason you want to use butyl. Butyl
will remain sticky and flexible. 4200 will cure fairly stiff. Any
significant movement will break the seal.
This is why I just re-bedded Touche's chain plates with butyl. Going
forward my rule will be to bed fitting
Christian, just sent a photo of my chainplates to you. Sounds like your setup
is more simple. Lucky you! As I mentioned, that topside plate is welded to my
chainplate so to get underneath it I have to lift the entire unit. Oy!

Hello, just worried with all the movement of the plates that the area not
under compression will somehow not attach as well as lets say 4200.

Dave Godwin,
My worry with butyl is that with all the movement of the plates it will
somehow not seal as well where its is not under as much compression. I was
toying with the idea of doing one side with butyl and the other with 4200.
To see which lwas easier to work with, lasted longer, and

Mike,
Yes, actually the decks on “Ronin” were completed last Fall. I started in on
deck hardware re-installation but only got as far as installing the forward A
hatch and the new Lewmar Ocean 60 hatch over the main cabin before the weather
set in. I picked up the new replacement fixed ports
Hi Dave
Does this mean that the painting of Ronan decks is now complete?
Thanks
Mike
