We picked our prior boat, a 72 35 MK1, at an auction. The person that brought it to the sale location did not open the seacock and the engine overheated so bad that the paint burned off. I am not too sure what degree of harm it precipitated. But eventually, I got it running like a champ.

Can I suggest the Moyer forum for A4 questions? There is a lot of expertise there on A4s not restricted to A4s in C&Cs 😉 Also I think from the sounds of it you may have a stuck valve or 2 or 3. They will collectively get you running again. Probably the first question will be compression numbers
