Unfortunately, it turns out there appears to be a leak in the tank itself,
though how is a mystery given it was replaced in 2018. Need to obtain some
additional jerry cans and pump out the diesel so can look at the bottom of the
tank.

A piece of a plastic bag tied to a string, then sucked with a shop vac
works well, I would be concerned that cotton could get wet and not be
effective. We used the bag method often for sucking a string through up to
300' of conduit underground.
