Well, it was more than 50' to be sure, probably not a fair comparison, Maybe if I had given them the old pieces they could have re-used the old eyes, but they didn't ask for them, and I wanted to keep the old pieces. The Dyneema is covered in a black tube all the way around the eyes to keep the sun

I looked into it this winter but opted for rod rigging (with forestay and backstay switched to wire) because of a few reasons. 1) Resale value. Less people are familiar with synthetic rigging so it will probably discourage buyers. 2) shorter life span But there were some appealing characteristics

The best Dynemma rigging is found here: https://www.colligomarine.com/products/standing-rigging It is not the standard SK75 or 099 stuff. It is heat set to eliminate creep. Joel On Mon, Apr 15, 2024 at 11:49 AM John McCrea via CnC-List < cnc-list@cnc-list.com> wrote: > I had my rigging inspec

I had my rigging inspected last year, and the rod was fine. What was not was the wire headstay. I had that replaced. John McCrea 1979 36-1 Talisman Mystic, CT From: Bill Coleman via CnC-List Sent: Monday, April 15, 2024 11:23 AM To: Stus-List Cc: Bill Coleman Subject: Stus-List Re:

The deal with Dyneema is supposedly it is only expensive ONCE, the fittings can be reused and the actual Dyneema replaced cheaply. It should not have cost much at all to just replace the line, was it really $4,000 for 50 feet of it Joe Della Barba From: Bill Coleman via CnC-List Sent: Mon

I think you will find it is a fair amount more $$, for little gain. Probably have to change a lot of your attachments as well. I replaced my backstay (split) with Dyneema, only because that's what it was originally. After spending 4 grand on that, I wonder why I did it for the little weight savings

Joe, It is a bit of a challenge to find a rigger who will do it but you should be able to find someone who will inspect and re-head the original rod rigging (North east rigging systems in MA did mine 4 years ago https://www.nerigging.com/). The rods will generally form cracks and fail at the ends

Sad but true—my local rigger never looked either and no survey was involved. Mostly folklore IMHO (the necessity of replacing the rigging after 20-30 years)but liability for their work(company, individual, etc.) is likely a large part of reasons for replacing it. I am sure I stressed mine a few t
