A through hull or hose can fail. Hence the plug. Not to fill a hole in the
hull itself.

I’m with Dennis. A properly installed fixed depth transducer is really no
different from drilling a hole and then glassing it up again. And although
I’ve rarely seen a plastic transducer fail, I still tend to put in the somewhat
more expensive bronze ones if there’s a choice. Those suckers ar

Steve,
If it is working why not just relocate it without drilling a hole? Instead
of mineral oil, coat the bottom of the tranducer with Vaseline and stick it
somewhere. If it works there you can then epoxy it or just leave it as is.

Steve:
Both my speed and depth are under the starboard settee locker just
behind the head's bulkhead, so one compartment forward of where yours is
now.

Dwight, I believe the ST-60 uses the same transducer as the ST-40 that I
have. Yours is designed to be used as a thru-hull correct?

Steve,
Holes in the hull aren't an issue as long as they're plugged. :)
Seriously, there's no reason to avoid drilling holes in a hull if they are
properly done and not too close to each other. Touche' has 11 thruhulls.
No biggie.

Drill away, Steve! It's the best way to go.
