Yes, that's been my experience so far too. One area that is difficult to
get at though are those places between the hull and liner where water may
have entered and left mildew behind. For example, the area around the mast
step, head and shower pan on my 35-2. I cleaned what I could reach with

I have used a variety of cleaners over the years and they all seem to do a
similar job, i.e. they clean out anything relatively loose, but nothing will
get out thick oil/algae/whatever scum but a person with some rags.

I pour a little biodegradable Tide in the bilge and it seems to work ok.

I spritz with 409 and run a garden hose into the bilge. Bilge pump pumps
it out. Maybe not particularly environmental. I've found dawn or even the
eco-dawn to work pretty well too. Make a soapy solution and spritz away.

Hi Fred,
I just pour some of Starbrite's cleaner in my sump. Works well. I tend
to mostly use Starbrite stuff for cleaning these days. I found that their
products typically perform much better than brand X and are often cheaper.
It's on sale 40% off at West right now.

I was previously chastised for suggesting bleach as it can harm stainless
steel. I have found Purple Power to be an effective bilge cleaner.

What do listers like to clean and deodorize their bilge? Mine needs a
major clean and freshening.
