I am in pretty much the same weather pattern as you Richard, and we have had
some very high water levels in Kettle Creek, but last weekend did turn out to
be a pretty good one on Lake Erie. We had the 50th running of the L.E.I.R.
(Lake Erie International Race) from Port Stanley to Ashtabula on Friday, a
distance of 49 nautical miles. Conditions were well nigh perfect for the race,
with 10 - 15 knots of wind somewhere between a close reach and a close haul all
the way across. There were 32 boats in all, with C&Cs and Tartans being the
most represented manufacturers, but I think that C&C had a slight edge
numerically. I won a hat and a bottle of Mount Gay, for getting a third in my
fleet. As usual we had a good time partying with our friends at AYC on
Saturday. There was not enough wind to complete the Childs Cup race back to
Port Stanley on Sunday. There was a clear sky overhead, but an odd haze on the
lake, which we later found out to be smoke from all the forest fires out west.

  Our weather pattern here in the middle states has not bee conducive to
boating; it rains or has a high percentage chance of rain almost every day;
plus, the Ohio River has been up over its normal banks for over two weeks...
very unusual for mid summer. I have not been able to get into my dock because
it has been under water.... Sooo; I was wondering if anyone has any good
boating stories or getting much sailing time in?
