yea it has a slotted head. If I could find some 1/2” aluminum ready rod or a
hex head bolt I could probably shape it into a flat head and slot it with a
hacksaw.

There is no reason for the flat head or the slot or aluminum. I replaced mine
about 10 years ago after they rotted off and the pedestal came adrift on a
heavy wind day. An interesting moment. I found some aluminum hex head bolts and
had a machine shop taper the underside of the heads so they

If there is enough length to the Edson 6 hex head, and enough diameter
on the head, it would be an easy job for a machine shop to turn it into
a countersunk flat head bolt.
Or a half decent machine shop could turn one from raw stock...
