Possibly there's more vibration when the boat's in gear? That is, when you're at the dock at modest rpm, there's not enough shaking going on to spring a leak. Then when you've got it in gear at 2800 or so, you might just crack a seal or a bolt that's backed itself off a turn or two. Just an
