Many moons ago I had leaks from the SS handrails and the yard suggested adding
conical standoffs between the SS rails and the deck. This enabled a larger
surface area to be used to help seal against leaks.
Has worked for 10+ years.

Hi Joe,
Mine are just how Dennis describes it. Screwed up
from cabin, exposed head & finishing washer.
Nothing fancy, no interior grabrail that mates to it.
They have been off & on twice. I will do it again this winter.

delayed project to remount some deck hardware, so

I haven't removed Touche's cap rails so I don't know if the mounting pad is
hollow or not. It may well be hollow.
I would think about injecting spray foam into each hole. That will fill
the hollow. Then using a bent nail in a drill, hollow out the foam 1/2 to
3/4 inch around each hole. T
