Hello, Birders.
Hannah and Andrew and I chanced upon a nice flock of peeps at Walden Ponds,
Boulder County, earlier today, Thursday, April 30th. They were at Duck Pond,
they were close to the shore, and all 3 species were present: 10 alternate
Semipalmated Sandpipers, 1 alternate Western San
This summer is the second year of data collection for the breeding bird
atlas in South Dakota. We invite Colorado birders to help. We have a lot of
species that you won't encounter on your Colorado atlas blocks. Some of the
specialty species include grassland specialties (Sprague's Pipit,

At 8:30 and again at 2:30 this afternoon, I saw a female Western
Tanager near Prospect Park. This afternoon she was in a bright green
cottonwood directly south of the cormorant nest island. I was
standing on the bike path while looking at her. The first time I saw
her was about 100 yds to the w

Checked out Lower Latham and Beebe Draw this afternoon. Most interesting
find was a pair of Mute Swans in one of the large ponds on County Rd. 48
between 43 and 47 roads (photographed.) Another flooded field along 48 held
a couple of Long-billed Dowitchers plus the usual suspects.

Hi COBirders,
After a slow start this morning, things picked up. After the winds
shifted from NW to SE, about 10:00, we started seeing more birds
moving around, and caught the most birds. Observed GC Kinglet
(unbanded), the RB Nuthatch, and warblers started arriving.

Doug Faulkner and I walked a little bit by our office in the Interlocken
business park in Broomfield, Broomfield County today during lunch.
Interesting finds included:
Green-tailed Towhee
NASHVILLE WARBLER - a first county record found by Doug
Orange-crowned Warbler
Bullock's Oriole
A quick check on the farm pond adjacent to the model airplane field, this
morning, yielded:
1 Western Sandpiper
1 maybe 2 Semipalmated Sandpipers
A handful of Least Sandpipers
Cinnamon Teal
1 Wilson's Phalarope
1 Long-billed Dowitcher
and all of the regulars.

While filling my hummer feeders in my backyard yesterday, I had a good minute
about 6:30 PM.
While looking at an Indigo & Lazuli Bunting a Golden Eagle flew over the yard
heading north. I got photos of all three.
