Plage's post. The small park off 8th and Simms was very birdy. I only made it
through half the park because there was so much activity and I only had an hour
to spend (usually can walk the whole park in less than a half h
While driving west along Prowers County Road KK, north of Holly/Granada late
this afternoon, there was a single Dickcissel on a wire above a green field.
I'm guessing there are more around out there. Since I don't remember reading
about any of this species this spring, I thought I'd report it.
There is currently a Piping Plover hidden amongst the rocks at the
very tip of the sandspit to the east of the south marina at Chatfield
State Park. The bird was first found by Paul Differding. It is ironic
that it is there with all of the boats and jet skis in the immediate

This was the last scheduled day for RMBO banding operations at the
ranch, and it was an average day. The storms last night didn't seem
to create a big turnover of birds - maybe they were held up south of
here by those storms. We did see more of the Swainson's Thrush/
Lincol
Welchester Tree Park (8th Ave. Lakewood) had a singing chestnut-sider
warbler at of 12:45 today. It was singing/foraging continuously just east
of the bridge over the ditch the area is very birdy with inchworms
hatching in the green ashes.

This morning, I awake to a mess outside my sunroom window. The squirrels had
somehow managed to pull the feeder down and had emptied all its contents on
ground below where the feeder had hung. I fixed the broken wire, rehung the
feeder but left the seed on the ground.

Yellow-billed Cuckoo in his yard along the North Fork of the Gunnison River
near Paonia. This is a fairly early date for cuckoos in western Colorado.
