We started the day with a minor disruption…an immature Red-tailed Hawk decided
to seek breakfast out of our nets, and ended up getting himself pretty tangled
while destroying at least one net. Biggest bird I’ve caught in a mist net….and
the biggest talon I’ve had pierce my finger
Would be interested doing a little birding with a knowledgeable Colorado
birder.
I have Sunday and Monday left before I must head back for Iowa. Staying in
Steamboat Springs so something within 50-60 miles would be OK with me.
As an alternative, maybe some good birds to locate in the Routt Co

Arvind Panjabi. (Arvind is director of Rocky Mountain Bird Observatory's
International Division. He offered the field trip in RMBO's silent auction last

In all my years of living in the "Top of Skyway" neighborhood (sw Colorado
Springs, next to Bear Creek Park) I have never once seen an Evening
Grosbeak at my house, although I do know they are in the area, not far away,
maybe a little lower elevation.
This morning (Sat.) there were 2 females
A pleasant surprise in the yard today.

All of this while the trees were filled with Starlings giving their squawing
song. I thought Starlings scared the song birds away usually
I've gotten some calls about my summer hummers. I did not post this year for
folks to come visit because I was out of the state when the highlight[Calliope
came thru]. When I did get back, 2, ad. m. Calliope were in my yd. for 2 days.

Hi all,
Last evening I began my first ever Flammulated Owl Banding Project here in
Estes Park. We set up and began broadcasting the owls call at 8:15 pm. At 9:00
pm. I caught my first owl. It was an HY (Hatching Year) meaning the bird
hatched this year, Flammulated Owl.

At 6 pm on Sept. 3, I counted 14 Turkey Vultures in their treetop roost at the
nursing home across from Jack's Market. If anyone is keeping migration records
for Turkey Vultures, I will continue to report every couple of days, also next
spring. RSVP.
