Hugh and COBirders,
I have been working with eBird data a lot recently trying to make a birding
calendar (ever since I mentioned it a while back), so I found the Varied Thrush
comments from Hugh to be very interesting. Should we be seeing Varied Thrush
showing up now or is this early or late?
A Varied Thrush has come to a backyard in eastern Douglas County since
Wednesday. Very shy, it skitters away from jays, magpies, and crows, and it
doesn't condescend to share its perch with chickadees or nuthatches. It does
not associate with robins. [The homeowner requests anonymity; in order t
Lake County, 10-24: a flock of about 10 Bushtits near the South Elbert
Trailhead parkinglot this morning became my 200th species for the county.
Hadn't previously seen this species this high, about 9500'.

Yesterday, northeast of Georgetown on CR 306,39.739237,-105.683337, in a flock

I saw the Nashville Warbler briefly at 10:10 this morning. I had birded Lake
Estes from 8:30 - 10:00 in the nasty cold and very windy weather. I had given
up and was heading back to my car a little after 10:00 when the wind let up a
bit, so I decided to go back and have one more look at the litt
Greetings again--
Greenwood Wildlife Rehabilitation Center has a Chipping Sparrow that is ready
for release ASAP. If you've seen any recently--especially in the Front Range
area, although any could be helpful, if sightings are few--I'd appreciate your

Hi birders,
Sorry for the late report. I heard and observed a Swamp Sparrow yesterday AM
at Coot Lake (63rd St. N of Hwy 119). It was along the trail on the north
side in the wooded marsh. Its call was ringing loudly across the wetlands.
Best,

Hi Bill et al.:
The bird in question is undoubtedly an Orange-crowned Warbler, for the
following reasons:
1) it has a dark eyeline behind the eye;
2) the eye ring is broken into eye arcs (the extensiveness of the eye arcs is
probably due to photographic effect);
3) the flanks are gray with a
Hi all:
I have posted the solution to the previous Mr. Bill Mystery Quiz
(www.cfo-link.org). The current quiz's deadline for responses is midnight
tonight, MDT. So far, there haven't been many to assay an answer, but I think
that I know why that is.

In addition to the previous report, Carol Hunter reports
a Tundra Swan at the Arapahoe National Wildlife Area, seen on 10/21 and 22.
It was seen at Pond 76 and at Elk Pond, which is at the back side of the auto
tour.
You can probably pick up a map as you enter the area.
