At about 7:00 this morning, we spotted a Red Throated Loon in breeding
plumage at Cherry Creek State Park. The bird was best seen from the area of
the boat house (we walked down to the small floating dock there). This is
at the more southwest end of the Lake Loop. The bird was actively feeding
This morning there was a male Eastern Towhee singing at Plaster Reservoir
in Broomfield. It was in the SE corner of the reservoir near the viewing
deck. Plaster Reservoir is behind residences in the NE quadrant of Lowell
and 136th Ave.
This is a new Broomfield County bird for me.

Right near it and the double crested Cormorants was a red breasted
Merganser.

On my commute this morning so some behavior that is new for me in my
ten years of being up here. Six Swainson's Hawks roosting on a single
tree (the famous (only) one between WCR 27 and WCR 23 along WCR
100). Pics of them and other morning birds (Burrowing Owls (6 so far,

The weather was a lovely mix of sun, rain, wind, and slushy hail balls.
In no particular order, we observed the following birds:
Hooded Merganser - 1 female
Wilson's Snipe - 7

Yesterday, I sought expert advice on the colored band combination I
observed on one of three Hudsonian Godwits at Neenoshe Reservoir in
Kiowa County, Colorado (I failed to mention that two southeast Colorado
birders, Stan Oswald and Janeal Thompson dropped everything and joined
me

On my way home from Greeley today I stopped by Plasters Reservoir to search
for the Eastern Towhee. I arrived about 3 pm. There was a couple there
looking for the bird without any luck. They left a little too early as at
about 4 pm, as I was leaving, I heard the Towhee sing from the
Tonight I had 2 Western Kingbirds on the south side of Louviers.This is 3
weeks earlier then I've ever recorded
in 19 years in town.

Delta parking lot. It popped right out to check the song of its species on
the Nat Geo app on my new iPod Touch. (Don't worry I shut it off
