To finish up the account of my Lamar (Prowers) visit from late 25April thru

feeder at his Walsenburg home and not 5 minutes later had
hummingbirds!
Personally, I've been so busy with two new puppies and trying not to
attract either black-birds nor bears...my bird-feeding has been on
second burner. I
Oh...and mixed in with the bright yellow American Goldfinches are
stunning Lesser Goldfinches...of the Black-backed variety. They look
like zoot-suiters in that black yellow. And despite my attempts to
dissuade them, black-birds, starlings and grackles abound...already

Sorry for the late post. Terry Cookro sent me excellent images of a
Solitary Sandpiper from yesterday morning. She is walking on the greenbelt
now, but near Kipling and has not checked out that lake.

Pueblo City Park, it was near the Frisbee Golf Course creek, across the road to
the east. It was staying high in the pines. Leon Bright was able to get there

There has not been such a good stretch of birding as I've participated in as

I was doing a backyard Big Day today as I was home doing gardening. I saw in my
binoculars a group of 5 WF Ibis being pursued by a falcon. The birds were
flying as fast as they could but the falcon was gaining height and distance.
After a minute of two of closing the gap, a single bird

I banded a Blue-winged Warbler this morning (Wednesday) at Chico Basin Ranch.
I released it at about 1030 and it had no fat, so may stick around a bit.

This evening I found a first year female Vermilion Flycatcher on private
property in the Canon City area. I first Fremont County Vermilion, which I
also found, was also a first year female. When I first spotted the bird it
was pumping it's tail phoebe-like--that and it's light coloration were
I was going to mention that I flushed a first year light Broad-winged Hawk
on the bluff trail (about midway) of the Canon City Riverwalk late this
morning. Broad-winged Hawks have become fairly reliable in the spring on
this section of our riverwalk.
