In the same area that my wife and I saw an adult male rose-breasted grosbeak
last weekend, today, several folks witnessed a possible rose-breasted X
black-headed grosbeak. I did find this bird last week but failed to
recognize its importance.

A) "Cara" in Spanish means face, so I guess that translates as "face face."

Someone besides me was drawn to that bird's "interesting" face when they
named the bird.

w. Weld County shorebird spots. Not much in the way of migrants yet, but on the
N side of road 42 in Beebe Draw there were 7 Western Sandpipers and at the N
end of Loloff Res. there was a Greater and

Hopper location (from yesterday) on north near dry creek bed with
wooden bridge.

I believe only seven of us saw the Crested Caracara this morning (mid-morning)
in Bent County, it was east of County Road 26.5, on the hill about a mile and a
half away. Several people were driving around, and couldn't get back in time
to see it. The bird flew after a few minutes to the east,

we found a Marbled Godwit in Phillips County at the playa at Roads
2 and 29. A few miles west of Road 6, we photographed a second cycle
Peregrine Falcon, unusual on the far eastern plains in mid July.
Dickcissels were abundant.

I LOVED seeing the Crested Caracara. Thanks to Duane Nelson.
And a great bird is a great sight.
BUT, I did notice that it one might not call it "the prettiest face in the
room."
So I got to thinking that if the adult was that homely, what must the
