Greetings All
Today Larry Arnold and I covered much ground in Delta and Mesa County. At
times, the birds were a bit thin on the ground, but we had surprisingly good
diversity (117 species) and some interesting birds nonetheless... plus stunning
countryside.

This evening (4-21) my wife and I went to enjoy the sunset and see if there
were any new arrivals at North Shields Natural Area in Fort Collins. I was
surprised to find a SAGE SPARROW chasing grasshoppers and other insects
along the ground on the east side of the back pond (Sterling L
Heron trifecta today, Great blue at Doubletree pond, Green and BCNH at
Rice's pond at Fountain Creek Nature center.
There are at least a pair of common loons at Big Johnson, one of
them is mature in breeding plumage and is great to see from the
"unofficial" parking lot.

I noticed that people have mentioned Yellow-Headed Blackbirds and
American Avocets in the past few days. I've been seeing a pair of
avocets in Broomfield County in the pond behind the King Soopers at
136th and Zuni (also saw a half-dozen White Pelicans the other day).

Saturday, at about 1:15, on 95th, just north of the intersection with
Oxford Road, south of Niwot Road: a smallish raven perched atop a
telephone pole. I was riding my bike underneath the bird when the
breeze kicked up with perfect timing to display light gray neck
feathers (on the bird, not me).

We got up early (for us) this morning in order to meet our bird class at Barr
Lake. Right outside our window we heard a Common Poorwill, our first of the
season.

I and others ( Bob Carver , the Steinkamps ) failed to find either the
Lucy's or Hooded Warbler today around the banding station . Number's of
migrants around the banding station were low compared to yesterday.
I did have 3 Mountain Plover in their usual spot in Pueblo Cou

Golf Course Creek in Pueblo City Park. This is on the west side of the park.
I went to the Park, thinking I'd run into the DFO Group, though never did. I
called several local birders, who came and were able to see the
