Good Morning All,
Took some seed over to the feeders behind the Red Rocks Trading Post
at Red Rocks this morning, and the Golden-crowned Sparrow showed up at
7:30 A.M. I will put out seed tomorrow morning early as well, and
folks probably have a good chance of seeing the Golden-crowned Sp
I just had a couple brief visits to my feeders in North Boulder by a male
Northern Cardinal. It then flew into a Hawthorn tree in the front yard,
and on across the street into some pines and junipers. I'll keep looking
for it and post if it returns. The general area is the intersection of 3rd

2 Western and 1 Least Sandpiper were with the Kildeer in the NW corner of
Union Res., east of Longmont. Ducks and geese are increasing daily, we saw
nothing unusual. 4 American Pipits on the south shore. Still quite a few
Grebes (Western, Horned, Pied-billed). 2 dark Harlan's Hawks in the
The N. Cardinal reappeared at my feeders just after 10 am for a short visit
of a few minutes.

Cobirders,
Several birders saw the N. Cardinal this morning before 11:30. I have not seen
it since. I will post if it returns. Since we have a landscaping project
going on, there will more activity in the vicinity of the feeders tomorrow.
Hope it sticks around.

The Common Redpoll appeared this morning and has been feeding for most of
the day with the Pine Siskins at our finch feeder

I was out hunting for redpolls at Pella Crossing. No luck.
But as I was watching some gulls I was amazed that they were landing in a
small Russian Olive tree to eat the fruit.
I had no idea they would be able to land and perch in a tree, much less
that they had interest in olives!

This is a very interesting observation. I would guess that they were
Ring-bills, but that olive consumption is not necessarily unique to that
species. Gulls seem to be fairly omnivorous. My buddy sent me pics last week

I spent a some time in Lincoln county today in the snow early and then nice
warm weather by midday. At Kinney Lake SWA I had a pair of COMMON REDPOLLs.
As I pulled up they flew in and landed right in front of me. I did get some
photos but they are very poor as they were through my
