Threw some seed out at the feeders behind the Red rocks Trading Post
this morning and the Golden-crowned Sparrow appeared right away. Did
not see any Rosy-Finches, although there were some folks there hoping
the Rosy's would appear. If the snow and cold predicted
My wife and I spent a chilly hour at Chatfield at first light, mainly along
the edge of the reservoir at the north boat ramp. There is a nice variety
of winter birds (hooded merganser, common merganser, bald eagle, common
goldeneye, ring-billed gulls, etc.), but if the Iceland gull was there,

A quick drive around this morning revealed ponds in Anthem still hold some
open water and good numbers of waterfowl and gulls, including Siena Lake
and the Anthem ponds at both sides of Lowell Blvd. (south of Hwy 7).
The pond to the east of Lowell held some 200 Ring-billed gulls with 4

I saw the Golden Crowned Sparrow and at least three Gray-Crowned
Rosy-Finches today at the Red Rocks Trading Post 12/24 between 4:00 and
4:30pm. It was starting to get pretty chilly by then, maybe that had some
effect.
The first Gray-Crowned Rosy-Finch I saw was way up on the cliffs west of
I made a quick trip down to Chatfield late this afternoon to try (again!) for
the Iceland gull. Gull numbers were very low (maybe a hundred total) and
consisted of the usual suspects- ringers, CA's and herrings. I guess Glen will
keep reporting it on odd days and I'll keep missing it on even
