Greetings All
The following is rather technical, and is taken from the Birds of North America
Online, a website worth subscribing to. Note that repeated attempts to
demonstrate hybridization have failed. As I recall, mtDNA differences between
Darwin's Finches are essentially nil, though I am

When I was at Valmont Res a week ago, a Golden Eagle was on the ground
(thought it was a coyote initially, it was so huge), picking through the
remains of a Canada Goose. Lovely looks with my scope for non-birding
family members. Yesterday at Walden Ponds, there were 2 GOEA on the utility

Steve and others,
This is really interesting. However, to me, citing a lack of evidence of
hybridization has 2 major problems. 1) hybridization is a rare event and
would be incredibly difficult to detect in "species" that are largely
inseparable morphologically and 2) how could hybridization o
Birders,
I made a short visit to the Lamar Community College Woods (Prowers
County) on Sunday, January 5th. At the extreme south end, I found a male
Eastern Towhee. There are a couple of modern houses at the south end of
the woods. A cable extends north from yard of one of the houses, strung
My husband, Jamie, and I were on our Wintering Raptor Survey route ( East

in a field, about 500 yards from the road we were on ( 115th ) around 11:30
am. The location of the bird was on 115th street approximately .5 mi
Greetings All,
A couple points. The attempts to discern hybrids, at least in a couple papers,
looked for mixed pairs on the breeding grounds where both species were present.
So... if populations of different phenotype don't interbreed though they share
the same breeding areas, per the Basic Sp
Hello birders,
Here are 14 photos I took this weekend of birds posted by others. I would
love to post something original, but as John Milton wrote, “They also serve
who only stand and wait.” (Then go out and take a photo.)
First three pics from Boulder area, last seven from the Platte River T
Today Kirk Huffstater, Kyle Huffstater, and I headed to Pueblo and Canon City
for some birding in the great January weather. We started in Colorado Springs
and got the Acorn Woodpecker in the birdy neighborhood near the Sacred Grounds
Coffee Shop. We ended up running out of time at Pueblo Rese
