This is the Colorado Rare Bird Alert for Thursday, March 28,
sponsored by Denver Field Ornithologists and the Rocky Mountain Bird
Observatory.
When I drove by the FC E. Prospect platform at dusk on 3/27, no Osprey.
Maybe I jumped the gun, maybe Mr Osprey was just platform-shopping, or
maybe he was busy elsewhere. I'll keep watching. I really want to see this
platform get used.

The GADWALL X NORTHERN PINTAIL was again hanging out in the muddy cove on
the northwest side of the reservoir this morning. I saw it with a scope
after walking a short distance south from the trailhead near the bend in
55th Street on the north side of the lake. The duck has a long bill, white

The male Eastern Phoebe has returned to Phoebe Bridge on the Plum Creek
Delta, in Douglas County today, March 28.
Interestingly, this is the same date it appeared last year.
Another phoebe, this one a Say's, was present near the west entrance kiosk in
Jefferson County.

Littleton,
A Snowy Egret spent several hours this am in one of my large Maple trees.
Highland Lake is directly across the road. I was able to capture a couple of
photos, but when I tried to get closer, it flew away off to the north.

Cobirders,
If gulls drive you nuts, feel free to delete or ignore this post.
I inspected Gary's gull photos near Drake Lake (Weld County). There is what
appears to a darker (slaty) gray-backed adult gull with pink legs in the
back of the flock in the seventh photo (the one with 4 pieces of

Thanks Gary for an interesting gull panorama.
Unless I am missing something, the Drake Lake bird looks like a largish Lesser
Black-backed Gull. The back is not dark enough for a SB Gull and the legs are
quite yellow.
There is overlap between LBB Gull and Herring Gull in size, and I (and Joe
COBirders,
Just now as I glanced out our kitchen window at our feeders, I was surprised
and disappointed to see a FOS (for me) Common Grackle. There will soon be
one--or gobs--near you.

My first Common Grackle of the spring was on Tuesday 26 March) in Pueblo West,
seen with Margie Joy, while looking at a Ross's Goose. So, far I haven't seen
any more Common Grackles, I'm sure that will change soon!
Good birding,

I knew I should have posted this earlier. I had my first Common
Grackle last Friday, March 22, just before our big Saturday snow. I
really didn't want to brag about it because i know I'll probably be
invaded by a bunch of them all Spring and Summer. But I've not seen
one in the yard
The Egret I saw in my trees was a Great Egret, not a Snowy Egret. I saw it
again later in the afternoon. Thanks Nick for the correction.

Hello birders,
Saw 5 of them at Left-Hand Reservoir near Brainard Lake today about 11:30
am, left side of trail below dam where spruce get short and willow shrubs
start. Look for their tracks in the snow near willow shrubs. They were
loafing about 30 feet up the bank from the trail. Photos
