Hi CoBirders
I saw two Horned Grebe on Heron Pond at Lowell Ponds SWA (Adams Co.) at
about 5:30 pm today. The yellow "horns" on black head were clearly visible
with binos, even raised. Neck and breast of both birds were light, so in a
transitional plumage. The birds swam together. one raised its

I have received some very complete replies to my question about the longevity
of Varied Thrush stays in CO from both Brandon Percival and Doug Faulkner.
Thank you.
Apparently the longest documented stay was 70 days for a bird in Beulah (Pueblo
County) from 13Dec1986 to 21Feb1987. However, in
This morning, I saw that a second Osprey has joined the one who was hanging
out at the new nesting platform on E Prospect in Fort Collins (Larimer
County).
They need to get to work on that nest. It's just a few sticks right now.

Hello All,
Wonderful to hear the cascading song of the Canyon Wren while putting
out seed this morning at the feeders behind the Red Rocks Trading
Post. The adult Golden-crowned Sparrow and Gambel's White-crowned
Sparrow appeared in the first 15 minutes (~7:45). Saw all the junco

Hey Denverites,
Just got back on a run through Wash Park. There is a Bald Eagle in a tree
on the northeast corner of Smith Lake (northern end of park). Pretty cool
morning surprise in the city. If you are near by, go check it out.
Good birding,

another 10 or so Cedar Waxwings mixed in) singing loudly in the trees of
the strip mall parking lot immediately south and west of the intersection
of Drake and Shields in Fort Collins. Nice surprise driving through town!

There was a Varied Thrush in 2000 in Walsenburg in Huerfano County that stayed
until April 1st, according to the Pueblo Area Migration Calendar, that Dave
Silverman compiles. I guess the bird wasn't documented for the CBRC as it
wasn't listed below, and it was present for a while before the las
Hi Dave,
The Colorado Bird Records Committee has 48 records for Varied Thrush dating
back to 1972. The longest stay is of one at Beulah, Pueblo County, that
stayed from December 13, 1986 to February 21, 1987. A duration of 70
days. Looks like the Fort Collins bird may have exceeded that record.
Hi all,
Thanks to Lark Latch for alerting me yesterday evening to the continuing
presence of the Northern Cardinal in west Boulder. I went to the
neighborhood of 4th and Juniper this morning and easily found the bird,
since it was SINGING. I obtained some good quality sound recordings and got
