Today I found a Cooper's Hawk nest with nestlings in it and I was very
surprised today to find an immature Cooper's Hawk defending the nest. I
found the following on the *Birds of North America* online site: "Usually 2
yr but year-old immatures reported as 6% to 22% of breeding females." I was

I missed the TRICOLORED HERON this morning at Holcim Wetlands but Van
Truan who with his wife was a short distance ahead of me on the trail said
he saw it and it flew off towards the river. I did spot a Green Heron
there again today.

Hello, Birders.
As a public service to Boulder County birders, Hannah and Andrew and I earlier
this evening, Friday, July 5th, "trap-lined"--as we like to say--various
reservoirs in northern Boulder County. The things we do for you people.
We have established that there is a strong inverse rel
Hi all,
A male Calliope Hummingbird just showed up at my feeder. This is ~5-7 days
earlier than what I recorded for the last 6 years at my house here in Colorado

Happy belated 4th.

Just as a point of interest... the West Mexican subspecies of Reddish Egret
(that is, mostly around Gulf of California) lacks a white morph, so this bird

Average first date for them here is about 7/4, so basically right on schedule!

Birders,
This morning (July 5th) I observed a white-phase REDDISH EGRET at Adobe
Creek in Kiowa County. It was in the southeast corner of the shrunken
reservoir. It is almost due north of the main (closed) boat ramp, and
