I spotted a single Black Phoebe twice this morning near the Arkansas River
just west of the Sell's Lake parking area. Both times were brief and both
times the bird did little vocalizing. I couldn't determine the age of the
bird I saw first but the second bird sighting was one in juvenal plumage.
That's a great report and for the most part great news. Thanks a lot for
getting back to me. Deb

A week ago I found and photographed a very unique colored Swainson's Hawk
East of Kersey on Highway 34. Where he should be brown he is a
pinkish-gray color with excess white on his head and a wash of pinkish-gray
down his chest and on his legs. The bird was there again today, this time

I spent a fair amount of time on the eastern plains in the past couple
of weeks. As is typical with monsoon flows, the heavy rains come in
pockets. Overall, the plains are looking vastly improved over
conditions in the same areas just this past March-June.

Today on the east side of Fort Collins I checked Kechter Pond (Larimer,
distantly viewable to the se from Strauss Cabin Road at a pulloff about a mile
south of Harmony), then moved east to Timnath Res (Larimer) and ended up at
Crow Valley (Weld).

Thanks for everyone's response to my email. A lot of interesting information

Deb and others,
There are two available datasets to look at for precipitation totals (both are

Hi Deb et al,
I came through Last Chance on July 30th. This is prior to the monster rains
you mention but the place had obviously received some moisture this summer.

I was very surprised to see two adult male lark buntings in my yard
yesterday; they were with a group of lark sparrows. We live in
P-J/Ponderosa habitat at 7000 feet elevation.
New ranch bird! Pics available.

Hi Deb, We just drove through eastern Colorado. Everything is fairly green
because of recent rain. Even down into the Lamar/Two Buttes area
everything has greened up and there is water in the creeks. While we were
in the Two Buttes area (Rocky 7K Ranch) they received another 7/10 or
rain. S
