So, is it just me or does it seem like Barn Swallows have been the last swallow
species standing for much longer this late summer-autumn than usual?
In the way of example, in the northwest corner of Grandview Cemetery in Fort
Collins there is a bridge over a ditch that hosts nesting by both
Just saw two Cliff Swallow this morning at Wellington SWA--hanging in there
... the majority disappeared probably a month ago. Our local Barn Swallows
(3-6) were last seen about ten days ago.

Hi COBIrders,
Bird-of-the-Day: Adult male HOODED WARBLER, banded this morning. Very Cool.
The clear skies and wind brought in new birds, especially sparrows, they just
didn't find the nets until midday. At dawn there were dozens of White-crowned
and Song Sparrows, and some kinglets and mixed
Hi, again, COBirders,
On my drive home today from CBR, Hanover Road was loaded with raptors,
presumably many of them migrants. Seen on poles were a Ferruginous, 3

If you’re interested in a little more fall birding, I’ll be leading a field
trip around the Louviers area in Douglas County this Saturday, starting at
7:30am at the Louviers Post Office; this will only be a 1/2 day outing, ending
at noon. The Post Office is easily found on Google, or you can

on the wires above the parking lot at Claymore Lake, Reservoir Ridge, Fort
Collins foothills open space. They were munching up the bugs in the air.

This morning I encountered a small flock of migrant birds in that portion of
Bear Creek Park that lies just north of Ft Lyons National Cemetery.
Included in the flock was a Philadelphia Vireo and a Townsends Warbler.
From Sheridan Blvd. take W. Kenyon Ave. east to a small parking area on the
Actually they are called flocks and not groups of barn swallows :+)
Plus we still have a hummingbird on our feeder every day, some kind of
immature or female, probably broad-tailed.

I've been thinking about this a lot of late.
First, I swear...About 6 weeks ago I was going to post to COBirds a
prediction that a Barn Swallow would be seen this year on a Colorado
Christmas Bird Count. Probably John Martin. Well, I'll make the prediction
now. Okay, I've just jinxed that
I observed scores of both Cliff and Barn Swallows nesting under three
different bridges-over-ditches on the Federal Center (6th Kipling) all
summer. The majority left sometime between August 27 and Sept 12.

I was having trouble accessing my Birds of North American (BNA) account this
morning when I first posted about swallows. Apparently the reference I quoted
in lieu of BNA (Erlich's Birder's Handbook) about Cliff Swallows sometimes
having 2-3 broods per year is in error. The Birds of North
