There were 6 Mute Swans (2 adults, 4 juveniles) at the 35 Rd gravel pit ponds
(aka Poudre Ponds in ebird) on Monday. The juvs were white like the adults, but
the bills were tinged with pink. According to Sibley, Mute Swan cygnets become
white by November, so I presume these were hatch-year birds

I just had a flock of 50+ bird stop in the yard! I live in the horsetooth
lakes Estates neighborhood, across the street from horsetooth mtn park, west of
Fort Collins. They were headed northeast toward the reservoir. By far the
largest flock I've ever seen around here.

Hi Nick,
Bonnie Hobbs and I first observed what sounds like the same 6 Mute Swans on
November 7th through November 9th. They were a 1/2 mile west of 35th Ave ponds
and about a 1/4 mile south of the Poudre River in a small pond in a subdivision
in north Greeley.
They are beautiful.

on Union Reservoir this morning.
Nearby Jim Hamm Pond was nearly dry but had two Snow Geese and two
White-fronted Geese restiing on the exposed shoreline.

I saw the Brant this morning. Again it was at the SW part of Houts
Reservoir both on the water and grazing nearby. It was with 3 Canada Geese.

Traveled up to Boulder this A.M. to try for the Bay breasted Warbler.
Spent an hour (1020-1130) waiting at the "usual" spot without seeing it.
Then decided to try Lagerman Reservoir to see if, by any chance, the
White-winged Scoter scared off by Roller had returned - it had. Watched
it for 15

Jim identified it as a juvenile shrike, maybe a Northern, conceding that a
juvenile shrike would be late and any Northern

The photo looks good to me to be a first fall Northern Shrike - long bill,
extensive pale base of the bill, pale gray crown, pale lores. I don't think it
looks like a fledgling which would have a shorter tail and be much browner.

Landbirds were nearly absent at Jackson State Park and on the reservoir, bird
numbers have plummeted. However, by the outlet channel, there were two
lingering Long-billed Dows and a Dunlin.
At Stewarts' Pond near LaSalle, the two small white geese were still present,

Yesterday I found 16 Red-breasted Mergansers on our smallish Brush Hollow
Reservoir that is about 15 miles northeast of Canon City. This is an
unusual species in this area and especially this number of birds. I
