A Taiga Bean Goose, reported as possible, was seen at Wilson Lake State Park in
west/central Kansas today. It might be worth watching the KSBIRDS listserv
tomorrow, to see if it is re-found. I'm guessing there will be some people
looking for it. There are accepted records from Nebraska and
COBirders,
A fifth Ross's Goose (ad.) has joined the 4 that have been at the Tinseltown
Pond in the 'Springs since late December (on ice in PM).
A Snow Goose was new today (PM) with geese at Big Stratton Res. (Lake Ave.)
With the water opening, I was amazed to see frolicking Canada Geese jumpin

I have now looked for the wren at the west end of Sawhill Ponds 4 times,
and I'm yet to see or hear it. Also, I can hear nothing on the posted
calls of the bird: probably too old. So, all I can go on are the
photographs. In my opinion, Rachel's very good photos show a fairly

In recent weeks, Boulder County birders have been lamenting the absence of
gulls at Valmont Reservoir. Well, the birds are over at nearby Boulder
Reservoir, instead, and I found this morning that they are eminently viewable.

I saw and heard the Winter Wren today 1/25 near Martinez Park, east of the spot
described in Leatherman's post. At the "0.5 miles west of College Ave" sign, go
straight north to the river's edge. The bird was exploring the snowbanks and
tangles of the north bank.

Black-backed Gull. Big Johnson has a fair amount of open water.

After Bill Prather reported a pair of Barrows Goldeneyes for the Foothills
Audubon Christmas Bird Count, Peter Hartlove and I have been periodically
checking out the spot just north of the bridge at highway 119 and 3rd Avenue,
east of Longmont. We park on the eastbound side of 119 and walk under
