Today (Apr 28) along Deer Creek at Hildrebrand Ranch Park there was a male
BLACK-CHINNED HUMMINGBIRD, as well as my 1st Orange-crowned Warblers of the
season and a Green-tailed Towhee.
Two WHIMBRELS flew north over the South Platte arm of Chatfield, while I
stood near the river's inlet into the re
Eric and I stopped by Prospect Lake (Colorado Springs) briefly today. The
wind chased us away from a mostly empty lake pretty quickly, but not before
we got good views of a female Red-breasted Merganser. I'm not sure if they
are considered rare enough for this list, but I've never seen one bef

Banding report for CSR, Monday 4/28. Despite the forecasts it was a delightful
morning with light S winds near Fountain, rather than the gale from the N in
Colo Spgs at dawn. Wind didn't hit in force until about 1045 a.m. About 25
birds caught today.

This morning between 7 and 8:45 we were able to re-find the SUMMER TANAGER,
ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK, and NASHVILLE WARBLER in the same location as
previously described along the bike path. Numerous YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS,
both Audubon's and Myrtle's, made quite the show. We dipped on the

I'm happy to report that the Karval Community Alliance hosted a successful
8th Annual Mountain Plover Festival April 25-27th. Participation was the
highest ever with close to 40 participants many from the Front Range of
Colorado, but also guests from as far away as Minnesota and Florida. Thanks
I saw two Willet at Weld Cr 84 marsh along with Lesser Yellowlegs, and
Long-billed Dowitcher. At home Brown-headed Cowbird, Chipping Sparrow,
Say's Phoebe, Burrowing Owl (Weld Cr 33) and our annual "Funny Farm"
ducks--pair of Mallards hanging out in our field--nearest water is Dover
