White-winged Scoter (Arapahoe, Boulder)
Yesterday, my wife and I took a walk along St. Vrain Creek in Lyons. Old
St. Vrain Rd. was quite lively in early afternoon. Our first finds were a
single female Pine Grosbeak and White winged Junco at a residents feeders.
Then, as we passed a section of close rock wall a quite active Canyon Wren
When the Sandhill Cranes leave New Mexico, we should be checking for it in
the San Luis Valley in March in the hopes that it moves north with them.

Hi Cobirders. I no longer can do Christmas Bird Counts. However a lot of
birds were coming to my feeders Christmas morning so off and on I
checked for 3 hours between 7:30 and 10:30 AM . At least 11 species were seen.
Only one observer ME! Wx Calm cold with 4snow on ground.

All 3 species of Rosy Finch were at the Fawn Brook Inn feeders this afternoon
with over 100 Gray-crowned , 10 or so Brown-capped and just one Black Rosy
Finch . Pine Grosbeak and Evening Grosbeaks were also present .

Driving to work this afternoon (Dec 28) on C470 I passed a *Merlin* near
Ken Caryl Ave, an *American Kestrel* flew over near Kipling, a *Prairie

After many people searched today the YELLOW-BILLED LOON was NOT seen on
Chatfield Reservoir today. In the calm of the night last night the
reservoir nearly completely flash froze. Through the course of the day
the water opened up a lot and a good variety of species was present. One

I didn't see a White-winged Scoter noted in the Rare Bird Report for
Colorado Springs so making a late report as I while traveling nearby for an
appointment I checked and saw one at Prospect Lake last Friday. I have a
couple of reasonable photos for sexing/aging but haven't had time to upload
