an RC kinglet. It would have been easy to miss a lone warbler.

Birders,
The Least Bittern I reported on 11/21 is still present in the exact same
spot as of 9:15 this morning. It is at the low spot on Bent County Road
JJ between Roads 19 and 20. Look for three metal posts on each side of
Road JJ, which marks the culvert. The bittern likes hanging around
A group of us finished up the Grand Valley Audubon Society Waterfowl Field
Trip by doing some birding in the campground at Highline Lake State Park.
Our reward was great looks at a male RED-NAPED SAPSUCKER (most gone by

A fantastic opportunity a Colorado teen interested in ecology. Led by
outstanding ornithologists Scott Weidensaul and Stephen Kress. See below.

I went to mile marker 18 at Fountain Creek Regional Park hoping to get some
photos of the winter wren, which I did, but also found what looked like a first
winter female chestnut-sided warbler (no photos unfortunately).

After work this morning I tried to go birding for an hour or so, but the
roads were completely covered in ice, so I went to sleep. I woke up to the
sun shining around 10:30 and decided to try again. It was mostly just a
waterfowl type day at the arsenal, I only looked at

I mentioned in my earlier post about seeing an additional hawk species and
that was a very late Broad-winged Hawk in far eastern Pueblo County. I
