place I don't think I've ever seen them.

Hi all
As the snow flew today, I found myself looking at the birds in the yard
wondering if anything different may show up. Nope, as the morning disappeared,
all I had seen was the usual crowd: Lesser Goldfinches, Dark-eyed Juncos,
Black-capped Chickadees, Spotted Towhees and those pesky intro

I saw the Brown Thrasher this morning in another part of the yard than
yesterday.. Unfortunately, when I came home this afternoon and opened the
front door, I flushed a sharpshin hawk off the front porch and discovered
the remains of the Thrasher by the front steps.

On the Black Forest CBC, we counted 1545 birds of 42 species. The species count
= second highest of 28 counts. We had only 23 counters - feel free to join us
next year for a couple of challenging hikes or some rewarding drive-arounds.
We had a good variety of raptors on the count:

The 29th Denver Urban CBC, on a balmy day that I can hardly remember now,
tallied 84 species (so far - one area count & a couple of feeder counts yet to
come in). That's one more than the average for the 28 previous counts.
The species list seems fairly typical; unusual species include Greater
Birders,
2 Rosy-Finches just showed up. 1 Brown-capped and 1 Gray-crowned. They
are in the back yard.

A lone female *Gray-crowned Rosy-Finch* showed briefly with House Finches
etc in a small tree near my feeders this morning. Then a group of crows
swooped in to the seed and the flock in the tree scattered for the time
being. Unfortunately I had to leave for work before I could see if she
returned.
I have been asked if anything unusual has been at my feeders.
So far this winter, no.
Just goldfinch, house finch, chickadees, siskins, blackbirds, jays.
If anything unusual shows up, I'll let y'all know.
