This evening, Sat., Jan. 14, in fading light at Stearns Lake, southeastern
Boulder County, Andrew Floyd and I saw a hybrid duck that I'm not certain
about. In terms of gross plumage characters, it reminds me of a "Brewer's,"
or "Bemaculated," Duck, i.e., a Mallard x Gadwall hybr
This afternoon I decided to hike up Hidden Valley in RMNP.
I found 5 Three-toed Woodpeckers. They were tapping and pecking off the
bark of the the spruce and fir trees. Also, of note there were several
Golden-crowned Kinglets and Red-breasted Nuthatches.

Walked the South Platte from 88th Avenue south this morning. Along with the
usual mix of ducks, there was one Hooded Merganser along with many Common
Mergansers. Four male Red-breasted Merganser on the Thornton Gravel Ponds made
a merganser trifecta. A dark morph Ferruginous Hawk and rufous morp
The trumpeter swan is still present and easily seen in the Chatfield pond
