Hannah Floyd's soccer game was conveniently near Boulder Rez, so...
Off I went!
First stop was Six Mile Reservoir, immediately south of Boulder Reservoir.
I got there in time for the last five minutes of sunshine this weekend, and
turned my attention to these guys:
Rather slow morning..The birds around yesterday appear to have left
ahead of the predicted rain, and not much new came in. Banded 24 birds
today, which providing good viewing for the Kingery's Beginning Birder
class which spent the morning with us. Here's the breakdown:
Warbling Vireo 1
Early this morning we saw 2 Red-necked Phalaropes at Ramah Reservoir.
There were many sandpipers (Baird's, Least, Stilt), Long-billed Dowitchers (7)
and dozens of Kildeers.
I have never seen as many Blue Jays, Northern Flickers, and Western Meadowlarks
as there were at Ramah today.

We wrapped up week 3 today with a drizzle and a shortened banding session
but otherwise had a excellent week. Wilson's Warbler's are still our
primary bird, but we're starting to see the Juncos, White-crowned Sparrows,
and Chipping Sparrows move through. We banded 198 birds this

Nothing rare to report for banding at Clear Spring Ranch today - but some
interesting notes.
It was a typical opening - several birds at dawn, some recaps from previous
days, mostly sparrows, then real quiet. This has been the pattern for a week
here.
Then about 9:00 activity
Currently looking at an Arctic Tern at Plum Creek Delta, alongside a Forster's
Tern.

Highlight species include: (*
2 juvenile Sabine's Gulls continued yesterday evening at the Chatfield
sandspit. They were flying low over the sandspit shore line and easily out
maneuvering the harassing Ring-billed Gulls. Beautiful display of their
unique wing pattern.
Also, 6 Red-necked Phalaropes were flying and landing
