My dog and I took a walk this morning at Willow Spring Open Space & Holly
Park in west Centennial (Arapahoe). I hoped to find one of those Cassin's
Kingbirds that everyone's reporting, and these two spots seemed as good as
any in the area for them. Nope, at least not today. But a half dozen
Circling high above Gunbarrel right now! Happy day!

Total of 41 species at Crow Valley (and nearby Briggsdale) yesterday.
Highlight was the constant overpass of cranes. I tallied it at 900, but there
could have been a few hundred more. After a while, the sound of small flocks
becomes background noise, despite my intent to try and count each
Several years ago during the Barr lake birding festival in September, I saw
at least 3 flocks of Cassin's moving south over Barr Lake with 10 to 20 in
each group.

I had a similar quandary several years ago in North Idaho where we’d
accidentally left a feeder out well into October. Didn’t remember we’d left
this particular feeder up (out of sight, out of mind) until we had an Anna’s
show up in the yard. I’d been of the understanding that
I agree with Dave L. The birds that appeared this fall around Fort Collins did
so during cold fronts with waves of other birds from the north.

Highlights at Chico Basin Ranch yesterday Oct 5th:

At the banding station was a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, Golden-crowned
Kinglets, Cassin's Vireo, Broad-winged Hawk, pair of Brown Creepers. Two
Cassin's Kingbirds on the road going east from banding area.
