roosting by day and hunting by night..

Tom Hall included a Ruddy Duck in his post, is this a note worthy bird for
the season? I thought I saw one on Clear Creek, at the former Lowell Ponds
area, on Saturday. This is Adams Cty. I could not confirm with my binos.

Thanks for the input on the snowies.
Had a bunch of finches until the Northern Shrike arrived. Once a shrike
sees the finches, it come in and the finches leave.
I don't expect any significant numbers of rosy-finches until the shrikes
leave in March.
Just the way it goes.

Yesterday did some birding around Fort Collins and found a few oddities -
for this time of year. A couple Soras were talking at River Bend Ponds
Natural Area just to the northwest of the parking area off Cheryl St. Also
saw 5 Snow Geese (3 white - 2 intermediate), 5 Great White-fronted Geese,
On a recent trip to Bonaire I identified my 500th bird, a
Yellow-shouldered Parrot. Also several other lifers. Bonaire is 40 miles
north of the Venezuelan coast.

I have been thinking about the Snowy Owls that have been seen in
Colorado, and am thinking that most, if not all of them have been seen
near open water. The one at Stanley Lake, the one that Nick Komar saw
near Carter Lake etc.
At least the one at Stanley Lake did not appear to be
