FYI Larimer Landfill is closed for trash dumping this morning due to high
winds. I don’t know if birders will be allowed onto the dump area but I doubt
it. No sign yet of any gulls or gyr.

Boulder Bird Club saw it around 9:45 on the edges of all the Canada Geese.
Then waves more of geese flying in plus the wind and the Pink-footed was
somewhere in the masses but difficult to hold binoculars steady and not g

The John Martin Reservoir CBC took place on Monday, December 17, 2018.
Fifteen observers tallied 108 species, about average for this count.
Good weather and a lack of ice allowed some species to linger late
(American White Pelican, Double-crested Cormorant, four species of
grebe, a C
The Pink-footed Goose was at the northwest corner of Milavec Reservoir at 10:45
a.m. We saw it for about 10 minutes and it flew off with the Cackling Geese to
west of the pond on the golf course which is north of the reservoir.
There were also a juvenile Greater White-fronted Goose and another bu

Pink-footed Goose on the SE corner of Firestone (Milavec) Reservoir between
11:00 AM and noon. Two Bald Eagles flushed the geese on multiple occasions
requiring rescans of the thousands of individual geese each time. The wi

I am an out of town birder who will have a shot tomorrow to search for the
Gyrfalcon. This would be a most desired lifer for me. I have been reviewing
the posts (thanks all!) and am curious what the best strategy would be to try
and respectfully see this bird tomorrow. Is it just

winds were over 50 mph in the Ft. Collins area. No gyrfalcon on poles in the

There is a great and safe place to hang out south of the landfill, on the west
side of Taft at the Trilby/Taft intersection. Trilby, is paved on the east side
of Taft, but is a dirt road on the west side, where there is lots of easy and
safe parking.

I would agree with Carl. I arrived about 11:30, about a 1/4 miles west of
Taft Hill Rd and the facon came to the folks waiting there. I have read
other reports that appeared to have the same "happy" result.
