Piling on to the Centennial Chippers reports... This past winter was the
first time Chipping Sparrows persisted throughout the season in my little
townhouse yard near Holly & Arapahoe. And like the other folks' reports,
these sparrows have stuck and are now breeding in my neighbor's tree.

The rattle calls of jays have been shown to be given by females, usually
dominant females. If they are ever given by males, it's apparently very
rare. So this sounds to me like a case of a dominant female asserting her
dominance at your feeder.
