It was cooler longer today, and we caught over twice as many new birds, and
twice as many species, as yesterday. Here's the breakdown:

The morning began damp and overcast and the birds were very quiet for
several hours. Despite the slow start, we saw a steady increase in activity
in our nets by the end of the banding day, and we finished with 23
newly-banded birds and 3 recaptures, and at least 12 species:

The City of Lafayette, eastern Boulder County, is sponsoring a bird walk,
free and open to the public, tomorrow afternoon, Sunday, September 8. We
start at 1pm(ish), wrapping up around 3pm(ish). We'll snake our way along
Waneka Lake's west shore, then over to Hecla Pond, then

I stopped by Prewitt for a couple hours this morning and figured people might
want to know that the water levels are low and excellent for shorebirds in the
southwestern cove/inlet area, if they didn't know already. Among the 15 species
of shorebirds I observed were 40+ Stilt Sandpiper
