Today while birding in west Loveland I spooked a dark brown raptor with
very distinct white lines on the tips of its wings similar to the
coloration of a nighthawk, although I have eliminated that option because

YBLO at Standley Lake. We had thought initially it was a Common Loon, but

Peter Ruprecht and I saw a flock of 50 Mountain Bluebirds in the far north
end of Jefferson County just SW of Great Western Reservoir moving about
this morning at about 9:30am.

It would be helpful to describe the observations that confirmed they were
alive, as
it is such a coincidence to have them there, right where the decoys were
recently.
Were they swimming, foraging, flapping wings, interacting?

Hi all, I originally posted a Bonapartes but changed the post to Franklin’s at
Marston yesterday. Gulls are still tough for me. The bill looked very black
which is what made me think Bonaparte’s. But I was guided to consider leg color
and that led me to Franklin’s. Sorry for confusion
