Birders,
I stepped outside of my house in Las Animas, Bent County CO at 8:28
tonight, and heard a large flock of Sandhill Cranes migrating northward
directly overhead. The moon has not yet risen, and it is very dark. I
can't recall ever hearing Sandhill Cranes migrating at night. Sandhill

Hi Steve
Great. That sounds like the hole used in 2012. The nest was first observed
March 6, 2012 and young were seen April 28, 2012.
Thank you, Bob Canter, Denver

Not Colorado but Sandhills. Saw 4 in a field outside of Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho
on Feb 29. Thought that was a tad early for that far north.

Just got back from a drive around Union Reservoir here in Longmont, had to
get out of the house after being a hermit the last few days during this
difficult time. Saw 21 Sandhill Cranes flying north over Union, hearing
that distinctive call sure gets the excitement meter pegged in abut 5
This morning, Kathryn and I observed the 2 dippers on Clear Creek under the
Lowell bridge carrying twigs, and on 3 occasions watched one enter/exit a
hole in a concrete retaining wall by the dam. The wall is north facing on
the south side of the creek immediately downstream of the dam. The wal
Went out looking for loons from about noon - 2:30. Nothing on the center of
the lake or eastern half around 12:30. Did see some birds on the SW side,
so drove over and then walked west. No loons, but Pintails, a couple Horned
Grebes, 31 Redhead, and some Common Mergs. Fun day birding!

A single American Avocet was mixed in with the gulls at the reservoir at McKay
Rd and 100th Avenue. Viewing is difficult due to the narrow shoulder and heavy
traffic; a scope is needed.

Donna,
You are making me come clean on my misidentification. I went to the north
shore this morning to try to see the Yellow-billed Loon that you clearly
photographed yesterday. After 40 minutes not seeing a Loon, I bumped into
Mark Miller on the way back to my car, and told him I would send to C
Hi CoBirders,
I saw two American Dippers in Clear Creek, below the check dam at Lowell
Blvd. about 9 am today. They were close enough that I could see both at the
same time, although I didn't see any direct interaction. This is the
location were a nest was found in 2012.Other birds present Malla
So I'm being reassured our bird yesterday was 100% YBLO, meaning there's
another loon out there! Hopefully someone can get some photos, sounded like
it was too far from you this morning, Peter. I'll head out soon to see what
I see. Will do my best to get photos of anything I see. We lucked out
Wow! Can you say more about what changed your mind and/or include photos?
Our bird was confirmed sometime before this morning as a YBLO.

All,
More careful observation with Mark Miller and the bird has morphed into a
Red-throated Loon. We have not seen the Yellow-billed Loon.

Hi folks, I am north of Branson, CO and yesterday between 4:40 & 5:10 p.m.
multiple large flocks were assisted by a strong southerly wind.
As always their constant bugling alerted us to their passage.

Just because this was a pic of the decoys, or art, or whatever it is
meant to be, is that a reason to take the pic down from the facebook page?
I'd like to see it.
