Although the wind caused us to close and then reopen various nets over the
course of the morning, we finally had a sort of normal day for spring
banding, just really late. We had 4 FOS birds (Western Wood-Pewee, 2
species of Empidonax Flycatchers, Swainson's Thrush) all of which would

Enjoying our first visit to Colorado in 18 months, it's been nice to get back
to birding in the Estes Park area.
I was birding later in the afternon today, May 21, in the Matthews-Reeser
Sanctuary at Lake Estes. It was slow for a while, then, as often happens, a

Today started off very busy, we had ~20 birds in the first hour and were on
pace for our busiest day of the season. Well, over the next 4 hours things

Hey COBirders,
The last three days have been pretty good for numbers at Clear Spring Ranch
banding, at least better than all spring.
31 birds banded Friday, 19 on Thursday, 24 on Wednesday. My best three-day
stretch this spring.
Lots of bigger birds moving this week, with flocks of W Tanagers,
There was a lovely Little Blue Heron at the Cottonwood Pond at Walden Ponds
this morning. It was on an island and then circled the pond before landing
in the far corner by the treatment plant. There was also a lovely male
Orchard Oriole near the west side. The warbling vireos, common
