Sorry no photo. In suburban southeast Aurora we observed a small, mostly gray
looking bird with a very distinct rufous top knot scratching vigorously in dry
debris near our front porch. About the size of a house finch, clear light gray
breast, darker on the back, no noticeable striping,
This morning I saw two American White Pelicans hanging out with gulls at Aurora
Reservoir. I don’t remember seeing pelicans there before. I have also
observed Black Billed Magpies in a couple of different areas at Aurora
Reservoir over the past two or three weeks. Again, although I have seen
For others who might visit Aurora Reservoir infrequently, please note that
there are free, walk-in gates from the housing areas on the south and east
ends. I bike and bird there often, entering through gate number one in the
Beacon Point neighborhood, just south of the Beacon Point Community
Hopefully we will all be able to meet and bird in this important area early
next May 2021 for the CFO Convention.

I think that is the way it is supposed to be. Too bad some birders are so

Beignets, Biking and Birding: This morning I joined a wonderful,

Do bald eagles which nest in Colorado migrate at all? Or do they stay in

I don’t know about the woman in Lafayette, But the lack of house sparrows I

Yes, in southeast Aurora, over the years, we have definitely noticed fewer
house sparrows. For several years house finches have dominated with lots of
other interesting species occurring , more nuthatches, more goldfinches,
occasional bushtits, solitaires and this year even red crossbills.
Has there been an irruption of Red Cross bills this year? We have observed a
group of 10 to 12 birds, male and female, almost every day for two months in
our yard in southeast Aurora, east of Quincy Reservoir. They usually land in a
small group on the bird bath to drink for a few minutes then
We live in Aurora near Quincy and Reservoir. A Townsend Solitaire has visited
our yard every day since March 6 perching in a pine tree and drinking from the
bird bath. Steve and Jean Stevenson

Every time a Eurasian Collared Dove visits our bird bath in southeast Aurora,
it leaves behind a large, nasty, white “slick” floating on the surface of the
water. If we don’t change the water right away, eventually the substance sinks
to the bottom. Does anyone know what causes this
In response to Walter Wehtje, we saw one Red Breasted Nuthatch in our yard in
southeast Aurora this morning. That is highly unusual for our location.
