I watched a pair of Blue Grosbeaks today at Dixon Lake gleaning something
from a small elm (I think) near the gate at the north entrance. When I
looked at the leaves of the elm it seemed like at least 3 different
insects/diseases were making a mess of the leaves. So I'm not sure what

I'm in the Big Thompson canyon west of Loveland, East of Drake. Looks like
they are eating sunflower chips.

I just had a male Rose-breasted Grosbeak at my tray feeder here on the Big
Thompson. I usually get an adult male during migration. Black-headed
Grosbeaks nest in the area.

I've had about a dozen Red Crossbills at my tray feeder the last couple
days. Several males & females. What a wonderful site! We are at about 5600
feet right on the river in the lower canyon.

I've been seeing a lot of Cassin's Finches at my place in the Big Thompson
canyon. Usually they are a rare occurrence. Today I saw about 20, with only
2 red males. We have lots of ash seeds up here and I have several feeders.

south end near and sometimes inside the orange floating barriers. Someone

Interesing behavior. I'd not heard of that. I've had really good luck
with decals on the windows to keep the bird strikes down. Something like

The other thing is we live out in the boonies and I'm not aware of anybody
nearby that has turkeys (they may though). A domestic may have had to walk
a long way to join our gang. Could be though.

Dippers have been singing a lot in the last week or so along the Big
Thompson River. Part of the river is iced over, but there is still alot of
open water. We seem to have a couple pairs in our area.

We have them in the Big Thompson canyon. They showed up this summer at

Interesting about the juncos. I live west of Loveland on the Big
Thompson. This past winter we had quite a mix of gray-headed, pink-sided,
oregon and a few slate-colored. Now we have LOTS of juncos - about 100%
gray-headed.
