Turkey vulture migration appears to be in full swing. I watched Thursday
morning as at least eighty of them rose on the warming air over Ft. Collins
and joined in flocks to head north.

We had one male lazuli bunting at the sunflower seed feeder in Old Town
Fort Collins this morning. Pine siskins have dwindled to about six from
the 40 we had earlier in the season.

Our first (two) hummingbirds of the year showed up at the feeder this
morning, April 29th, a couple of broad-taileds, who also spent some time
sipping at the apple blossoms, despite the fierce cold winds that persisted
all day.

Saw a beautiful white morph gyrfalcon over the open land between Fort
Collins and Horsetooth Reservoir yesterday on Thursday, Feb. 13. It has
likely flown many miles since then, but birders along the Front Range may
want to keep an eye peeled for it.

I have a small flock of about ten pine siskins in fairly regular attendance
at my backyard feeder in Old Town Fort Collins, just four blocks from where
the brown thrasher has been reported seen. They were here on the morning
of Sunday, January 12.

While working on the north side of Cooley Lake in South Platte Park, Friday,
August 6, I watched a Merlin sitting atop a power utility pole for several
minutes, until it finally flew. Cooley Lake is a restricted access area.
For possible access, call 303-730-1022.
