We went back to Dodd Reservoir to look at the goose, and with a scope, the bill
is small, dark and no large gape. The head is all white with some brown
speckles at the back and the body is more brownish than blue gray. Topi and I
think it’s more likely a hybrid of some flavor; i have some digisc

Agreed with the other borders; Joe, PIWO holes are often very rectangular and
it seems doubtful that they make it here. I am in California right now and
seeing them, and grew up with them in New England, and it would be great to
have them in CO but, alas, they are pretty far and don’t seem to mi
This morning while going into the federal courthouse at 19th and Champa, I saw
a bird of prey in the same place where I had heard and then seen a peregrine.
Since the bird was silent, I couldn’t be certain, but when I came out an hour
and a half later, the falcon flew off and landed on the feder

While walking to the federal courthouse this morning (19th and Champa) I heard
a peregrine falcon. Looking up, s/he was perched on top of the building across
from the courthouse. I haven’t seen them in awhile downtown.

Even more lark buntings have appeared; there must be over 50 at the Rock Creek

There was a flock of about 30 lark buntings, pretty much equal numbers of males
and females. They seemed to be picking seeds from cow pies in the fields on
both sides of the entrance road south of Dillon Road.

On the way to work this morning, there were maybe about 120 Franklins Gulls,
maybe some from Ted’s group at Greenlee, on the ground at Monarch Road and the
Diagonal (119). There might have been other gulls but I was driving and
couldn’t stop.

I had one great horned owl hooting predawn about three weeks ago. It woke me up
and I listened for a second one, but the hoots were all the same pitch and
sounded like one owl. It must have been about 4:30 am.

I am listening to (and trying to record on my phone) a singing veery along the
Twin Lakes trail. It sounds like it is in a yard to the south of the ditch
where there is a big log across the ditch, east of the GHoW nest. If the
recordings come out I will post them on an eBird list.

Mark Holmgren and I had a Rose Breasted Grosbeak singing away on Monday morning

We didn’t report it then because it didn’t come up as a box on eBird. We also
had Black Headed Grosbeaks singing, a nice duet!

I have one or two this year, mixed with the BCCH. Some years I don’t see them,

The bird was easily seen feeding at 10 am by Joyce Takamine, Topi Martinez, and
