I go out to Sawhill-Walden Ponds regularly and it seems like there are the
usual numbers of Bullock's orioles singing/nesting. I'll check tomorrow.

I just had this large, vocal flycatcher calling from my catalpa tree! It was
so loud I heard it from my basement! I recorded its calls and may have gotten
px.
I’m sure it’s still around this area.

A Great-tailed Grackle is sitting in a large cottonwood tree just across the
road from the bathroom at the Stearns Lake parking lot. I first heard its

At least five bluebirds just east of Sawhill Ponds parking lot in Russian
olives at 10:35. Three were Eastern Bluebirds, but I did not see the others.

I have a 35' tall Washington Hawthorne tree with lots of ripe red berries
on it now. A few Cedar Waxwings have stopped by in the last week. Even a

between Baseline and South Boulder Roads. Cross Coal
Creek and follow the trail about 1/8 mile to south, past where oil maintenance
workers are working and then head west over to the bank of Coal Creek. The
flock was in a willow tree down in the deeply incised streambed.

The bird is actively singing along Rd. 67 that turns south from the Eldorado
Springs Rd. after the South Mesa Trailhead and before Eldorado Springs Canyon.

I have counted many fewer green-tailed towhees and some other species (i. e.,
Dusky and Hammond's flycatchers in Golden Gate Canyon State Park and upper Coal
Creek Canyon where there was nearly 4' of snow in late May. Perhaps they moved
to lower altitudes? Same could be true of rock wrens.

A stilt is on the far NW shore at Cottonwood Marsh now.
Four White-faced Ibis are across the lake, and about six White Pelicans are on
the lake on this cool, windy day.

A lovely white African Collared-Dove has been hanging out with my Eurasian
Collared-Doves and Mourning Doves. It is slimmer and whiter than the
Eurasian-collared Dove.

We saw 3 avocets in the lake at Belmar. They were a surprising sight among all
the No. Shovelers!
If anyone finds a collapsible hiking pole on the northern shore, it is probably
mine. It was floating that direction.

We are watching this lovely duck on the SW corner of the lake with the
cormorant nests. She has a mostly yellow bill and black and white stripes on
her wings.
