New to the group and a first time visitor to Colorado, Denver area from
Washington state/Puget Sound.
Some asks and a response to the recent wildlife friendly posts.
The first ask is for any local birders that might be interested in
sharing/showing a visitor around the RAM and Barr Lake areas and other
favorites? All the birdingPal folks appear to be "migrants" as well, with
Florida(?) as their early wintering grounds.
I am here until the 24th and staying in the Parkwood development area, JUST
on the SE side of the RAM. Willing to pay for gas/food as I am having a bit
of a balkiness in rental car rates at this time and don't really need a car
for the whole time that I am here for.
You can reply directly to me if you're available/interested.
Now for my response regarding David's post, partly because I still work for
a local Environmental Health program, although as clerical support not
technical. Anyway, for septic system maintenance for drain field components
I am a little confused by a requirement for weekly mowings of the areas.
Shared and high risk systems have annual inspection reporting requirements
for Washington state so while they need to be clear of overgrowth, weekly
just seems excessive. Of course, the general perception of acres of tidy
lawns as green space equivalents is the 'row' that we as birders/natural
world enthusiasts "need to turn over/hoe'. We are all familiar with the one
step forward/two steps back dance.
BTW, I am not really a ranter, honestly! Here to visit and pick up some
good birds! I am a member of local Audubon, WOS, ABC Birding Club and a
women's birding group, The Willettes.
Thanks for allowing me some of your mountain birding time!
